The Telegraph reported on the 19 November 2011 that there are a growing number of over sixties seeking divorce.

According to the most recent figures, more than 11,500 of over sixties were granted a divorce in a year. This is a rise of some 4% in two years.  In contrast, the divorce rate declined by 9.7% among those in their fifties, 9.4% in their forties and 15.5% in their thirties and 11.4% between eighteen and thirty.

This is perhaps an indication that life does really change for the over sixties and for many it is a start in their next phase of life.  However, it is also important to remember that just 4% of divorces are among the over sixties. The 2009 figures show that 34.3% of all divorces happen to those in their forties, compared with 33.6% among the thirties age group.
