Government to consider imposing shared parenting on divorce

The Daily Telegraph has reported that the Government is drafting proposals whereby the Court would have a duty to ensure, on a divorce, that both parents retain contact to the children.
However, it is understood that the proposals face opposition. A government spokesman commented:
“the Government fully supports the Family Justice Review’s position that the vast majority of children benefit from a continuing relationship with both parents after separation. We are looking closely at their proposal for encouraging this, and will issue a full response shortly”.
